Sometimes, the most enlightening conversations...

Sometimes, the most enlightening conversations happen in nursing homes. Fritz talked repeatedly about the "dirty '30s."
"We prayed and prayed for rain," he said in his heavy German accent. "It got to the point where we challenged God, 'Give us an answer now. Send rain now.' Old Pastor Kohlmeir said we mustn't speak that way to God; that God would answer in God's time. But the only answer we got was more wind, more dust, more 'hoppers, and even more neighbors packing up and leaving; moving back east, or heading west. That sure wasn't the answer we wanted.
"Emma wanted us to move, but I figured God wanted us to stay. God would send rain, I knew it. God would see us through. God would bless us, I was sure of it. It seemed like we had to go through hell to get it, but finally it came."
Habakkuk challenged God, "Give me an answer now." God responded, "The answer will come. You may not like it, but it will come. Watch for it."
