In the spring of 1987 a garbage scow left New York harbor, looking for a home. Loaded with 3,200 tons of garbage, it traveled down the Atlantic Coast, but was rejected by six states and three foreign countries. Eventually it went back where is started from, while municipal officials wondered what to do next.
Some had proposed that the garbage be used for a methane gas project, and others for a landfill on one of the Bahamian islands. But every proposal fell through.
The incident of the traveling garbage prompts the question, "What does one do with the garbage in life?" How does one handle the sin, fears, darkness of life, whatever it is that prevents the abundant life?
When King David's life was stained with the garbage of murder and adultery, the prophet Nathan pointed his finger at him and said, "You are the man!" There followed honest confession and God's welcome forgiveness. It was the only way to handle the garbage which had disrupted and blighted the life of the king.
