That Sunday evening I knew...

That Sunday evening I knew that life would never be the same. It was the last service that
our long-time friends would be in Hollywood as members of our church. Soon they'd be
leaving the city. For four decades, few programs and ministries took place without their
involvement. We'd laughed with them, cried with them, and depended on their wise
counsel. Though they promised financial support, we'd never enjoy their firm, reassuring
presence again.
The Lord eventually lifted the gloom from us; he sent many new dependable workers and friends. Still, that evening was memorable as a transition time.
Israel experienced unforgettable alteration on the plain of Jericho. The bread from heaven (manna) the Lord supplied for forty years came to an end. Israel now looked to the land for food, not heaven. Chances are that moment came with foreboding. "Will the Lord still be with us? Will we have sufficient food now?" These and other questions probably troubled the Israelites. God answered by faithfully providing. The problem the future held for the Israelites was: "Would they be faithful to God?" It's also the major question we face.
