A Sunday school teacher was hoping to have her class involved in some creative
illustrations for Easter. On Palm Sunday, she gave each member of her young class a
plastic Easter egg shell with instructions that they should put something in the egg that
reminded them of Easter and bring it to church on Easter Sunday. She was pleased that
some who had been absent asked for an egg so they could share.
On Easter Sunday, one by one they all shared an interesting variety of symbols. One had some seeds that would be taking on new life. One had colored an empty tomb on a small sheet of paper. One even had found a cocoon and shared that new life would soon come out of the cocoon. The last one to share was a small, mentally challenged boy, Bobby, who often misunderstood instructions from the teacher. He opened his egg, and it was empty. The children laughed, and the teacher tried to cover his mistake. Then he said, "But the tomb was empty, and I wanted to remind us of the empty tomb." The teacher said, "That's right, and this is a good reminder in the form of the empty egg. Thank you, Bobby, for reminding us."
