A team is an interdependent group of people working together to accomplish a common goal. The team's success depends upon its ability to use the gifts of the individuals to achieve that goal. Many teams count on a coach for guidance and direction -- and for encouragement. The coach plays a key role in shaping the team and keeping its members focused on its goal. If a strong, successful coach resigns, team members often lose morale and may even quit. The coach's resignation may dramatically affect the team's win/loss record or standings in national polls. In most cases, such a resignation profoundly and dramatically impacts the team and individual team members. The same can be said for well-established orchestral music directors, choreographers, ballet masters, master teachers or great world leaders. Their strength of character and clarity of focus are the foundation upon which an organization is built. Winston Churchill greatly influenced Great Britain and the Allies; George Balanchine, the New York City Ballet; and Herbert von Karajan, the Berlin Philharmonic. Their powerful and dynamic leadership invited people to rally around them! -- Spencer
