Temptation frequently begins in the eyes. Lot looked toward Sodom. David gazed upon Bathsheba. It is written that Franklin Roosevelt tried to keep Italy out of the war and prevent Mussolini from lining up with Hitler. But it was no use because someone had taken Mussolini up to a high mountain and invited him to look and see the kingdoms of the world.
I saw a poster in a gimmick store which announced, "Lead me not into temptation -- I can find it all by myself." Lot found Sodom and David found Bathsheba all by themselves, by looking where their eyes did not belong.
The antidote for looking at the wrong things: look at the right things. To change Paul's admonition just a bit: Whatever is true, honorable, just, pure, lovely, gracious, full of excellence -- look at those things.
What we look at, we see. What we see consistently, we become.
