On the tenth anniversary commemorating...

On the tenth anniversary commemorating the ending of the Vietnam War, Dan Rather -- on the CBS evening news -- gave a commentary on that struggle which so divided our country and took such a terrible toll of precious young lives.
He reflected on being in the war zone on one occasion, during the time of conflict, and walking with some soldiers. Suddenly one of the men near him stepped on a land mine and immediately had both legs blown off. Dan Rather said he would never forget the horrible scene and would always remember the words of that young soldier dying there in a pool of his own blood. To his sergeant, bending over him, the young man gasped with his last breath: "Tell them sergeant ... tell them ... I gave my all."
This brave man gave his legs, his blood, and his very life, in the cause of his country; he was convinced he gave his all for world peace.
Paul, in today's passage, tells the people of Colossae that Jesus gave his All for all. "Making peace through the blood of his cross." (Colossians 1:20)
