There are a couple of things that render the law incapable of providing us with salvation from our sin. First, knowing what God wants us to do, and doing what God wants us to do, are two different things. The law can micro-manage each detail of our lives, but if we fail to do what the law requires, we are not rescued from the trap of sin. If we are so angry that we kill a thief in broad daylight, knowing that that action is contrary to the law, the law did us no good.
All of us basically know the difference between right and wrong, but we don't always do what we know is right. That's the weakness of the law. It doesn't enable us to do the good, it just tells us what the good is. Secondly, none of us is capable of keeping all the law. We are always going to miss something and therefore fall short of full compliance.
