There can be a terrible loneliness to leadership. The burden can seem overwhelming. All we need to do is reconsider Lincoln's anguish and depression during the war that ripped our country apart. We remember the anxiety around the Cuban missile crisis and wonder how John Kennedy must have felt. A newspaper account said that Kennedy called former British Prime Minister Harold Wilson at all times of the day and night seeking advice. The burden of leadership is not always easy. Moses sought help from the Lord when the people complained about lack of meat. He was given a council of seventy elders to help him in his decisions. You do have someone you can share your burden with when you feel pressed down and alone. You can talk it over with the Lord. And it might not hurt to speak to some friends you respect. We may seem alone, but we never are. -- Houston
