There is a change in the atmosphere around Buckingham Palace these days. For centuries the palace where the Queen of England lives has been guarded by those ceremonial troops, called Beefeaters, dressed in bright red jackets and tall, black, fuzzy hats. But now that has changed, for fear of an Irish Republican Army attack upon the royal family. Instead of those ceremonial guards, British soldiers are posted outside the palace, dressed in khaki camouflage and carrying automatic machine guns. The passage reminds us that we are engaged in a real spiritual war. -- Bowen
