There is a line in Aesop's Fables that is translated by Thomas James as, "Every truth has two sides: it is well to look at both before we commit ourselves to either." Someone else has said, "Truth is relative to the particular prejudices of the hearer."
It is probably true that most of us have the unique ability to look at truth as a double-sided maxim, open to individual interpretation; but the Spirit of truth spoken of by Christ is not the vague intrinsic idea bandied about by the average politician or preacher. The Spirit of truth that Christ promised is also called the Comforter -- he that will guide us into all truth.
"He will glorify, for he will take what is mine and declare it to you." (John 16:14)
Our hearts, minds, and souls should reach out longingly to that truth, and, when found, seek to share it with all others.
