There is a story told about a lady who was a little on the heavy side, and who really wanted to lose weight but just couldn't resist food. She was approached by a beggar who said to her, "I haven't eaten for six days!" Looking at the man, this woman replied, "Oh, how I wish I had your willpower." In the early church we read of miracles being performed by the disciples. In our text, Peter raises a young woman named Tabitha from the dead. And what is the source of Peter's power? It isn't willpower. Clearly, the disciples of Jesus were just ordinary people like ourselves who had received something. And what had they received? -- The Holy Spirit -- the power of God. This is why they could accomplish such great things. -- Frank
