There will be signs in...

"There will be signs in the sun, moon and stars." The Bethlehem star must have been some star. Have you ever walked in the path a full moon cuts across a pasture? Turning, walking away from it, we block out its light with the shadow of our own body. If we follow its path, the darkness on either side appears to fall away. We notice only the light. To observers, we appear covered with light. Yes, we appear to have become part of the light, absorbing it as we walk into it.
The path shown by the Bethlehem star was that type of light, showing clearly the way to the manger. No stories of hesitation, shepherds simply followed. Were they spurred on by curiosity? Faith? Was it a desperate, quiet searching? We know only that they pursued the light.
The shepherds carried human burdens, frustrations and needs. Sometimes you and I are the curious shepherds. Sometimes we are the faithfilled shepherds. Sometimes we are the quietly desperate and searching shepherds.
The fellowship of others encourages us along the path, but to make the journey is a private choice. Wake up our wanting to see that star. Unglue our stuck feet so we can follow its light. Be sharers of the light and not blockers of its path. Connect peace with the light.
