As they worshipped, disaster struck the congregation of Goshen United Methodist Church in Piedmont, Alabama, on Palm Sunday 1994. It came in the form of a killer tornado racing across the landscape. Many were killed, including young children seated together in the sanctuary. In the aftermath of shock and horror, questions were raised. How could this have happened? Could it happen again? The federal government promised monies for early warning sirens, for the future. One week later, Easter Sunday, the congregation gathered in the church parking lot. They stood grief-stricken and wounded, yet hopeful in the deeper knowledge that God has not forsaken them and will not leave them comfortless in their life ahead. -- Kelly
