Those who were alive in 1944 remember the excitement of D-Day, June 6. That was the day when American and British forces crossed the English channel and landed on the French beaches. Once those beaches were secured, there remained no doubt about the ultimate victory. Much hard fighting took place between D-Day and V-Day, eleven months later. But from the day the Allied forces secured their positions in France, ultimate victory was sure.
Christians live between D-Day and V-Day. We continue to face battles with the powers of evil, but the decisive victory has been won. Christ has died for our sins and the victory has been vouchsafed by his Resurrection. We now look to V-Day when he shall come again in glory.
