Tim was in sixth grade when he was assigned a "Remembrance Project." Tim's
homework was to find someone who had lived in his hometown of Johnstown,
Pennsylvania, for at least fifty years and Tim knew just the man. His grandfather had
worked in the steel mills all his life and loved to talk about the good old days.
"So what was it like around here in the 1950s, Grandpa?" asked Tim.
"Oh, it was different, real different. The whole town was moving. Everybody was working. People actually came here looking for jobs instead of having to leave town to make a living," chuckled his grandfather, well aware that unemployment had been high for the last decade.
"Yeah, it was different," he continued with a sigh. "I guess our best days are behind us. Our glory days are a thing of the past. But they sure were good while they lasted."
Such were the sorrows of Jerusalem as her splendor was also a thing of the past, according to Lamentations.
