For too long, Christina remained silent. It might have been from her childhood that she
learned it was better not to say anything than to say something that might cause an
argument.
During the last year, Christina felt that she was growing closer to the Lord. She was serious about reading the Bible and spending time in prayer each day. Last summer while on vacation, her family attended a contemporary worship service. She recognized several of the praise songs that she had on a CD but others were new to her. What amazed her most was that the people who attended looked happy. She wondered why people back at her home church always appeared so joyless, even grumpy.
Christina knew that her church had briefly experimented with contemporary worship. When it did not immediately produce the desired results it was quickly canceled. Some of the people in that church held a negative opinion of praise music. Whenever a discussion arose concerning starting a more contemporary service it was always quickly subdued. Some of the leaders of that church were downright ugly.
With the support of a handful of people, she proposed starting a contemporary worship service on Saturday evenings. There were no other churches in the community that offered a Saturday evening worship experience. Christina organized the service and found the musicians and singers. Three months later, the church held its first Saturday night worship service. People began attending. It's a good thing Christina did not keep silent.
