In training for the Tour de France, the world's most challenging sporting event, Lance Armstrong goes through some very meticulous preparation. His whole year is designed to get him ready for one three-week event. His base training begins in the fall with plenty of stretching and weight lifting, in addition to lots of miles on the road. All of his food is weighed and measured. His VO2 max and power outputs are closely watched and charted. By the spring, specific training camps are set up to prepare for individual mountain stages and time-trials. And finally, a race schedule is mapped out to test his fitness and move him toward a peak performance in July on the roads of France.
Armstrong's whole life is designed to bring his body under complete control to win the race he considers his own.
