In T.S. Eliot's poem "Ash Wednesday," there is a phrase ... "where shall the word be found, where will the word resound? Not here, there is not enough silence ..." How can we create enough silence during Lent? How can we forge time for silence so that God can find us attentive to the still, small voice? In another of T.S. Eliot's poems, the poet seeks the "still point in our turning world." Where is the still point in your turning world? In an early morning walk. In a daily swim. Sitting by the fire. Reading scripture. Fasting for a meal. Holding a friend's hand silently. Try silence in your prayer time, echoing the words of the ancient prayer: "O God of peace, you have taught us that in returning and rest we may be saved, in quietness and in confidence shall be our strength, by the might of Your spirit lift us we pray to your presence, where we may be still and know that you are God, through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen." -- Steffey Morrow
