Two men moved into the same community at about the same time. The first man went to the local barber, and while the barber was cutting his hair, the man asked him what the people in this community were like. "What were the people like where you came from?" the barber asked. "They were a mean, hateful, spiteful bunch of folks who didn't care about anybody but themselves," the man said. "Well, I hate to say it, but you're going to find that the people here are just the same," the barber replied.
The second man went to the barber and also asked what the people in the community were like. The barber again asked, "What were the people like where you came from?" This man said, "You couldn't have asked for a more wonderful bunch of folks. They were warm, caring and kind people." And the barber said, "Well, I'm pleased to tell you that you're going to find that the people here are just the same."
The Golden Rule says, "Do unto others as you would have them do unto you" (Matthew 7:12). A corollary of the Golden Rule would say, "It will be done unto you as you have done unto others." Honor and respect are given to those who are generous in giving honor and respect to others.
