Unfortunately, prophecy like Micah's doesn't make much of an impact until the hearers begin to understand that the preacher is speaking to them. Micah speaks eloquently against those of his people who devise wickedness of all kinds, and bring oppression on the people of God. But, until the Spirit of God gives us the "ears that can hear," there will be little response.
When Ron Nessen went from being a member of the Washington press to being President Ford's press secretary, he learned quickly how it felt to be the target of his former profession. "There was one especially rough day," Nessen says, when I went back to my office after a press briefing and asked my secretary, who had worked in the White House for years, 'When I was out there, did I act like that?' She said, 'Yes, exactly like that'!"
