Unlike the plants and animals...

Unlike the plants and animals around us, the human creature lives for more than bread and drink. Our lives represent far more than existence. Life for human beings must mean more than living from day to day. All human life longs for meaning, purpose, and direction.
Jesus is that bread of life, filling the spiritual part of our nature. James Terry (1845-1920) wrote:
If thou of fortune be bereft
And in thy store there be but left
Two loaves, sell one and with the dole
Buy hyacinths to feed thy soul.
Our souls need to be fed. The true bread of life is Jesus Christ. The human soul will seek spiritual food, but spiritual fulfillment is found only in the Christ -- the true bread of heaven.
