"We can't afford that." Arden looked rather sullen. The one cologne that he really liked and it costs $50 for only 3.3 ounces.
"You should have it," his wife Darlene said firmly.
"Even I don't deserve to smell that good," Arden added with a flavor of sour grapes.
"I think you do," Darlene said softly. She reached into her purse and drew out a couple wrinkled bills that had been tucked in the inner lining. "Here, use this. I've been saving it for something special. Our anniversary is special and I want to do this for you."
Arden looked at her with more affection. "You worked so hard for this with your cleaning. You should spend it on yourself and get something special for you."
"You're my something special, Arden. When will you get that through your thick skull?" She edged Arden to the side and handed the money to the clerk. "Wrap it extra nice; it's our anniversary, you know."
