We hear a lot about power today. There is power in numbers. There is power in money. There is power in belonging to the right group. There is black power, gray power, young power, etc. If we band together, we have the political power to influence the way legislatures vote, in the way states allocate their funds, and in the policies this country will pursue. Every politician hears about the power of the group that is lobbying in their offices.
We also hear about personal power. There is power in the education we receive. There is power in the way we conduct ourselves in good and bad situations. We have a certain sense of power when we say that we are responsible for the success of a project or major event.
A good definition of power is the ability to keep a promise. A powerful person can promise that something will happen and then make sure the promise is fulfilled.
God is a powerful person in our lives. God makes promises to us and those promises are kept. In the healing of the crippled man, it is God's power and not Peter's that is at work. When God makes a promise, the promise is kept. God promises us healing and forgiveness as well.
