As we progress into the Lenten season, we are confronted with the type of behavior which makes God angry and the possibility that no matter what our offense we may be forgiven if we truly ask for it.
In December, 1975, a man and his wife were summoned to Buckingham Palace to receive the Queen's thanks for the husband's work in the slums of London with drug addicts, alcoholics and the homeless. In addition he received investiture as a Commander of the Order of the British Empire.
This man probably would never have done this fine work if he had not been deposed as the Secretary for War. This man was John Profumo, who created a scandal in 1963 with his affair with Christine Keeler. We should not give up on someone. Who knows what good things they may yet do?
