The wedding music was to be provided by a previously recorded tape. The music of "O Perfect Love" was to soar forth at the appropriate time in the ceremony. However, the nervous operator adjusted the tape, so when the music played, the bride said, "O Lord, Abide With Me!" It was probably not a prayer, but a comment on the song that came forth! But it suited the occasion. At weddings, or wheresoever we are: O Lord, abide with us. The rest of that theme should be: Let us, O Lord, abide with you. Our country is noted for its "moving people." We hear ourselves described as a rootless society, and so it seems to be at present. If we are rootless, we need to abide as part of the branches to one who is "well rooted." Lord, abide with me, and help me to abide with you, being united to you through Christ our Lord. -- Gobrecht
