What a precious commodity is...

What a precious commodity is water! Currently, we are hearing a great deal about its safety to drink. The purity of our drinking water is threatened with its arsenic content. We may be consuming poisonous water! Water purifying systems range from over $5,000 for a complicated system to under $50 for one installed on our faucets.
We are blessed to be able to turn on a faucet and get water whenever we want it. That's not true in many parts of third-world countries where women (always women and sometimes children) must carry it in buckets from streams in order to bathe, to cook and to drink.
Isaiah spoke of a different sort of water when, 750 years before Christ came, he said, "With joy you will draw water from the wells of salvation." Jesus became the "well of salvation" from which we draw strength and refreshment when we believe and drink. The water of baptism, an outward sign of Jesus' living presence, can bless us for eternity.
Water aerobics classes offer exercises that when performed out of the water can have damaging impact on older bones and joints. But in the water there is no impact and the water provides the resistance needed to strengthen muscles. The leader calls out directions as she shouts, "Come in a little deeper! Reach out for the water and embrace it! The water will give you energy you never had before!"
