What should you and I...

What should you and I do if someone that we know wrongs us in some way? In our
gospel lesson, Matthew tells us what we will do -- if we're wise.
First, we'll go, alone, and talk with the person.
Second, if that doesn't help, we'll take one or two people with us and speak again with the person.
Third, if that doesn't help, we are to tell the church.
We can show our love for God (and God's love for all of us) by how we treat those we believe have wronged us. Just as our Lord treats us, not only with justice but with compassion, so we are to treat others -- gently, caringly.
We should not get impatient as we deal with the shortcomings of others because we have enough shortcomings ourselves.
(From Oswald Chambers, My Utmost for His Highest [Uhrichsville, Ohio: Barbour, n.d.], p. 127)
