But to what will I...

"But to what will I compare this generation? It is like children sitting in the marketplaces
and calling to one another, 'We played the flute for you, and you did not dance; we
wailed, and you did not mourn.' "
It's hard to please some folks. On certain occasions I've asked people their preferences and received the typical "I don't know" answer. I made suggestions; they rejected them. When I asked again what they preferred, I still got nothing from them. Once I made a decision, however, they weren't pleased with my choice. Some folks come up with no ideas of their own. They want only to criticize others.
Many people have little interest in doing the Lord's work; they just want to complain about what others do. Whatever the game that's being played, they're unhappy. John the Baptist wasn't a mixer. Folks grumbled about him. Jesus was sociable; they nitpicked about him. It's a mistake to let folks like that control us or the church. God's real people work harmoniously and without complaint.
