Whate'er we leave to God...

Whate'er we leave to God, God does,
and blesses us;
The work we choose should be our own,
God lets alone.
-- from Inspiration,
by Henry David Thoreau
Tom lost his sales job, something that happens to many people, but he had thought his employment was secure. The shock of losing his family's livelihood at first sent him into a tailspin. But he was by nature a "doer," and found that sitting still was not the way to work out his grief.
He threw himself into job-seeking, sending resumes to every likely employer, and many unlikely ones too. The result? "Sorry, we're not hiring." "You're very talented, but we don't need your skills right now." Worst of all was the silence. Nothing he did seemed to have any effect at all, and after some time, his efforts at finding work in his field waned. It seemed that he was being told that the career path he had chosen was being closed to him. What was to take place? All he seemed to have now was time, lots of it.
Then one day, a neighbor came to the door. Would Tom like to use some of his time and skill fixing his roof? Tom had always been an avid do-it-yourselfer, but had never considered using his hobby for profit. Seeing no reason to refuse, he took the job. That was the start of a whole new life for Tom, who is now in charge of his own successful home renovating company.
