When Charles M. Schulz, creator of Peanuts, had Linus and Lucy move away from their old neighborhood in May of 1966, people from all over were upset. A doctor sent a telegram: "Heartbroken over current development. Bad for psyche of young. Please advise." Another telegram said: "Please don't let Linus leave. He's like a son to me." A student at Berkeley wrote that she believed all 27,000 students there were extremely upset. A little girl wrote that her family would break up if Linus and Lucy did not return. When Schulz gave in to the pressure and rewrote the script so that the family returned because the father changed his mind, some newspapers carried it as their headline. One reader wrote: "Today, here in our household in Georgia, you have restored security and a sense of well-being."
