When I was a child...

When I was a child, I enjoyed watching a cartoonist on television. He had a large marking pen and he could change almost anything into something. He would invite someone to come up to his drawing board and place some scribbles there. He then proceeded to make a very interesting picture by adding new lines to the scribbles. He might change some meaningless lines into a landscape, or a face, or into shading for an object such as an apple or a pear. You might say that he produced something of worth out of the mistakes of others.
God performed a similar redemptive work with David. He had committed adultery with Bathsheba and had her husband killed. When David was called to account for his sin by Nathan, he repented and God was able to use him as a very effective leader for his people. No matter how great our sin, God can remake us and use in his service.
