When I was a young boy, my parents would often invite our pastor and his family to Sunday dinner at our house after services. That association certainly had a dramatic influence on me in my call to the full-time ministry of the church.
When you are invited to someone's house for a meal, it's often because the host or hostess wants to share more than food with you; it often can be for the experience of joy. Like the shepherd who discovered a lost sheep, or the woman who searched and found the lost coin, eating at another's table can be a most rewarding experience.
Have you even noticed how often, in the Gospels, Jesus and his followers were guests at someone's house for a meal? It was in this kind of a setting that some of the greatest teachings and blessings came from the Lord to others. Christ invites us to dine at his table; what a blessing it can be when we accept the invitation.
