When an individual can relate freely to God, he can, also, lend strength to the whole concept of human freedom. God's covenant, made with us through Jesus Christ, is the basis for individual rights that can withstand political or social oppression. In 1939, Dr. Albert Einstein was a Jewish refugee from Germany, teaching at an American university. Reflecting on conditions in his homeland, the noted mathematician said. "When persecution and evil began to spread, I looked first to the universities, those great free centers of learning, for opposition. They were soon wiped out. Then I looked to the press, the newspapers and magazines with wide circulation and great influence. They were soon suppressed. Then it was only in the Christian church and Christian pulpits that men dared to stand up for right and truth and freedom."
