When my parents' bedroom was...

Object:
When my parents' bedroom was remodeled, we didn't notice that our family's globe was
on the top shelf in the closet. The new doorframe guarantees that the globe will remain
imprisoned on that shelf until the house is torn down.
Isaiah's vision of the future views the world as disposable as that globe. The prophet speaks of giant changes -- not the small, incremental ones like the optometrist puts to you, "Is this better or is this better?" The promised change is almost too large for humanity to grasp. The magnitude of change anticipated is the difference between the space shuttle and the earth. Or, the truest comparison could be the difference between the earth and all of existence. The heavens and the earth (all that the Hebrews understood creation to be) will be erased and exchanged, or rebuilt (at least remodeled), upon the pattern of peace and salvation offered in Jesus Christ.
