When one reads the stories...

When one reads the stories of many of the immigrants who make their way from war-torn
or impoverished countries to the United States, you could say that they have been
transferred out of kingdoms of darkness to a kingdom of light.
Consider the story of Linda Thong who escaped from Vietnam. Linda's father was killed in the war when was she was ten years old. Her mother raised her and her siblings as best she could, but it was very hard. Linda married when she was still a child herself, at seventeen. She, her husband, and their two daughters fled from Vietnam to Thailand by boat.
Fifty-five people crammed onto the small boat for nine days and eight nights. After five days they ran out of food and water. So desperate did the situation become that when people fainted from lack of water, they were revived with urine. The boat was accosted by robbers who not only took material goods, but kidnapped one of the young girls. One of Linda's children was thrown into the sea, only to be rescued by Linda's frantic husband. They finally made it to Thailand where they lived for five months before coming to the United States. Linda writes that every day she thanks God for the freedom she now has.
