When you are an heir...

When you are an heir to an inheritance, it can be a complicated thing. You cannot forget about the inheritance taxes that have to be paid. If the proper planning is not done, the inheritance can be greatly reduced by those taxes. That is what William Wrigley of the Wrigley Chewing Gum fortune found out. William's father Phil Wrigley had created a problem for his son by leaving half of his estate to his wife Helen. It may not have been so bad, but when Helen died just a short time before Phil Wrigley died, the estate wound up being taxed twice to the tune of $50 million. In order to pay the taxes William Wrigley wound up having to sell the Chicago Cubs baseball team.
We are reminded in the Romans passage that we are heirs of God through Christ. Through our faith in Christ our planning has been taken care of. He has an inheritance for us in heaven.
