Whence comes wisdom? Death and...
Illustration
"Whence comes wisdom?" Death and Abaddon, the realm of the dead, have "heard rumors" of wisdom. Seeing death and suffering around us, we may think that death and doom is all there is to life. We may mistake this realm of death as possessing the total meaning in life and lose our hope in God and the resurrection of his Son. By this mistake we may become, "nihilists."
Nihilism is a philosophy that states that life has no meaning; that "nothingness" is the meaning of existence.
But we know God created everything ex nihilo, "out of nothing." Life has meaning in God and his Word, Jesus, who, with the Holy Spirit were from "the beginning," worked our creation and salvation and life eternal.
Thanks be to God the Father, Son and Holy Spirit. With the fear of the Lord we obtain wisdom. As we depart from evil we obtain understanding.
And no thanks at all to nothing at all: nihilism.
