While Nero fiddled, Rome burned...

"While Nero fiddled, Rome burned."
We are so conscious of our status in life. Most of it comes from the need to be needed. We think that we are needed if we are deemed "important." While we do all those things that we think make us important, the central issues of life may pass us by. It is possible to fiddle our way to the top of the ladder while all around us our personal values are burned like toast.
Similarly, the personally chosen disciples of Jesus Christ may fiddle their time away arguing about "success" -- i.e., whoever is greatest must be the most important -- but meanwhile, the Greatest One ever to walk this earth is on the way to a cross.
