Who pays any attention to Number 2? Well, Babe Ruth is Number 2. He's the baseball player who held the record for home runs before Hank Aaron broke it. That record was 714 career home runs.
In one of his last major league ball games, the Braves against the Reds in Cincinnati, the Babe wasn't the player he had been. He fumbled the ball, and threw badly. In one inning Cincinnati must have been playing to his weakness because they scored five runs, mostly accounted for by Ruth's misplays. At the end of the inning, as the team walked to the dugout, the stands showered down yells and boos and catcalls.
Just then a small boy jumped over the rail and threw his arms around the knees of his hero, Babe Ruth. He had tears streaming down his face. Without hesitation, Ruth picked up the boy, hugged him, set him down and patted his head gently.
The crowd fell silent.
One little boy who cared about the feelings of another human being melted the hearts of the crowd and shamed their pride. -- Mosley
