"Will the test be very hard?" Jake asked his teacher.
The teacher told Jake that he would need to study everything, his notes and his textbook. "When you get home, study an hour before dinner. Then after dinner study for another hour before you go out to play. You'll need to get ready for bed a little early so you can study some more just before you go to sleep. If you do all that, you'll be well-prepared!"
One the way home, his friend invited him to come and play this great new computer game he got for Christmas. Jake refused, explaining that he had to get ready for a test. Later, his mother told him to go ride his bike and get some exercise. But he replied that he had to study for his test first.
Later, he came back early from riding his bike and got ready for bed.
"So early? Are you ill?" his mother anxiously inquired, placing her hand on his forehead.
"No, Mom, I'm fine. My teacher told me to study for my test before I go to sleep."
At breakfast his mother asked if he thought he was ready for the test.
"I did everything my teacher told me to, plus I said a special prayer when I woke up. I believe I'll ace this one!"
Jake jammed his baseball cap onto his head, grabbed his lunch, said good-bye and hurried out the door.
