A woman on a financial advice show on talk radio said that she was two months behind in her mortgage payments. When pressed by the host, she finally admitted to buying other things instead of paying the bank. "I hoped something would work out so I could do both," she said. Now she was in danger of losing her house.
It's easy to ignore the signs around us. It's easier to hope things will work out rather than do the hard work of dealing with reality. That's true in our spiritual lives as well. God said through Amos, "The time is ripe for my people Israel ..." (v. 2).
