before you were born, I...

"... before you were born, I consecrated you."
Can God prepare us for a purpose before we are conscious of it? We may be able to accept this for a prophet, but what about ourselves? We may catch glimpses.
I remember a day --about my tenth year --when a fireman came to school. It was "Fire Prevention Week" and, after telling us the usual ways of preventing fires, he apparently decided he needed to spell out the implications of how costly a fire could be. He described in detail what it was like to remove a body from a building, destroyed by fire. He spared no details.
Some twenty years later, I was called upon to sit on a coroner's jury. Two truckers had perished in the middle of the night, in a fiery crash near our town. Coroner's juries not only hear testimony, they must view the remains. I was told this would be a trying thing, and I prepared for the ordeal by my memory of what the fireman described years earlier. It was horrible, but I was prepared for it, thanks to that fireman.
Incidentally, the intersection of those two highways is now four-way stop protected as a result of the findings of that jury.
