A young child came home...

A young child came home from church school after hearing the creation story and asked her father, "Well, if God created everything, where does God begin?" After much thought the father answered, "In your lungs."
God gives the breath of life, so that we might consider such great questions as the beginnings and the endings of things. God is the author of all life, but we recognize that only as we live out our individual lives.Genesis 1:1-5 Not being an antique buff, when visiting an antique show, I looked for something to occupy my time. I noticed a very stout woman who looked as dislocated as I felt. She had a small collection of items before her.
"How did you get into antiques?" I started. "I'm not into them myself, and just wonder what people find in them to be so avid in collecting." She was inclined to talk. Turned out that she had been going through a very difficult time -- a near nervous breakdown, as she said -- when she got onto antiques. Following her first enthusiasm she began to read seriously and collect, visiting shows and making contacts with collectors. A new interest turned into a life-project. "I feel that collecting antiques saved my life."
Her comment was very moving, and I have remembered and treasured it for over fifteen years. Her life was in chaos. She got a vision of a new way to expand her life-energies, and this vision gave her a means for ordering her life. By a "word" of invitation to a new pursuit, her life took on "order" that off-set what could have been eventual destructive chaos. What might lie about you now. that, were you to hear its message, would bring order to your life?
