A young couple decided they wanted to volunteer and help reach out to meet the needs of people. Upon inquiring about local charities, they chose to be involved with an Interfaith Council. The wife was outgoing and assertive. The husband was quiet and shy. When they received their assignments for the evening at a planned fund-raiser, their faces fell. She was placed in charge of the coat room. He was sent off to sell 50/50 raffle tickets. Neither really enjoyed the task assigned to them, but both participated to the fullest, knowing that they were serving others. The idea or practice of footwashing might have the same effect for many people. Sometimes we have to be willing to go beyond the task to the reason for doing something. Christ has given us an example. Servanthood leads to some surprising tasks. -- Reisen
