The youth fellowship set out...

The youth fellowship set out for a week of short-term mission. They would work to fix
up homes in one of the southern states. They held several fundraisers to buy supplies and
cover travel expenses which people in the church and community supported.
One of the homes they were working on belonged to an elderly gentleman. The front door and the lock were broken. The man told them he had to sleep inside the door to prevent anyone from robbing him. The youth replaced the door, nailing new wood around the frame and then installed a new lock. The gentleman was so happy that tears were streaming down his cheeks. For the first time in a long time he would be able to sleep in his own bedroom. He asked the youth why they were helping him -- someone they did not know.
His question caught them off guard. They told about their church and how they liked to help people. They talked about Jesus. The man seemed genuinely interested. In the course of the conversation the man told them he did not own a Bible.
That night at the campsite, the youth pulled together their remaining snack money and bought a Bible that they gave to the gentleman the next day. He was truly touched by the gesture. One of the youth leaders prayed with and for him. The youth returned home know that their efforts made a difference.
Peter told Jesus, "Lord, to whom can we go? You have the words of eternal life."
