Getting Stronger
Children's sermon
From a Mustard Seed
Children's Sermons
Object:
You will need items related to building muscles and a healthy body: a picture of fruit and vegetables (or the real items), a bottle of vitamins, a jump rope, and a small set of weights.
Message: How many of you think you are strong? Do you have big muscles? Okay, let me take a look. (Squeeze several of the children's arm muscles and act surprised by their large size.) Wow! You are really a lot stronger than I thought you were!
Today we are going to talk about ways we can become even stronger. What types of things should you do if you want to grow up and be strong and healthy?
1. We should eat the right kinds of food and vegetables. (Show items.)
2. We should take our vitamins to help our bodies gain even more of the nutrients we need each day. (Show vitamin bottle.)
3. We should exercise every day to keep our muscles in shape. (Show the exercise equipment.)
All of that is very important, yet the Bible also speaks of another kind of strength that is just as important. It tells us that the Lord is our strength. Do you think that verse is talking about muscles like we have in our arms and legs? No, it is talking about the strength that Jesus can give our hearts as we trust in Him.
His power within us can make our faith stronger. He can make our love for Him more powerful. He can give us the confidence to rely on Him in times of trouble knowing that He will not fail us. That is the kind of strength Jesus promises us as we seek after Him and commit our lives to Him day by day.
