When will it be time?
Children's sermon
Object:
A watch, an appointment book, and a calendar
“But about that day or hour no one knows, not even the angels in heaven, nor the Son, but only the Father. Be on guard! Be alert! You do not know when that time will come.” (vv. 32-33)
Good morning boys and girls. We just began a new month. Does anyone know what month it is? (Let them answer.) That’s right, it is December. What happens in December that is important? (Let them answer.) Christmas! We all love Christmas.
Someone asked me the other day a question and I thought I would share it with you. He asked me, “When is Jesus coming again?” I thought that was a great question. I looked down at my watch and checked the time. It was 2 o’clock. Nothing seemed different than it was at 1 o’clock. It didn’t stop running or run any faster. My watch wasn’t much of a help.
Then I thought about the little book that I carry with me that has all the important things that I am supposed to remember so I took out this little book and began to turn the pages. I couldn’t find any place where it said that Jesus was coming back in my book.
I asked my new friend to come into my study where I had a big calendar with lots of things written down for every day. We read them all and guess what, there was nothing on it about the day when Jesus was coming back.
Finally, I got the hint and went to the place where I find almost all the answers. I opened my Bible and turned the pages until I found this verse. (Read Mark, verses 32-33.)
No wonder I couldn’t find it on my watch, my book or calendar. The Bible says that the only one that knows is God the Father and no one else. That was easy. I don’t have to worry about when Jesus will come back to earth. I just need to be alert and keep watch for the signs that Jesus said there would be before he returned. Amen.
