Be Thankful 365 Days a Year
Children's sermon
Object:
a list of things that you are thankful for
The Point: Recognize things that you are thankful for and be thankful always
The Lesson: Thank you, boys and girls, for joining me in this time of sharing. Today we celebrate Thanksgiving Day. Every year we take a day to be thankful for our many blessings.
I made a list of all the things for which I am thankful. (show list) I am thankful for each of you as you join me in our sharing time. I am thankful for my family that we love and support each other. I am thankful for friends, for neighbors to visit and to borrow a tool from once in a while. I am thankful for the home I live in and for the shelter it gives throughout the year. I am thankful for books to read and for music to listen to. I enjoy the seasons of the year and weather with all the variety. And of course, I give thanks for our church family with worship and fellowship. But most of all I am thankful for Jesus who reveals the Father's love for us. There is so very much to be thankful for. My list goes on and on.
In our Bible reading today Jesus is trying to teach us to be thankful. He tells us to not worry. Instead be thankful because God is watching over us to provide us with what we need. God, our Father, and Jesus, our Savior, are with us to give us life now and forever, We should never let a day go by without giving thanks. We should be thankful 365 days a year.
Before your Thanksgiving dinner start a list for what you are most thankful. Then as a part of your Thanksgiving table grace share some of those things. Make sure you have Jesus at the top of your list. Put the list on your bedroom wall. Then when you feel worried or unthankful read through your list. And your thankfulness will return.
Be thankful every day of the year for God is with us.
Prayer: Let us unite our hearts and hands in prayer. Jesus, thank you for your life that gives the promise of eternal life. May we see in every day a reason to be thankful. With thankful hearts we will never lose sight of your amazing love for us. Thank you, Jesus. In your holy name we pray. Amen.
