Big shadow
Children's Activity
Object:
SHARING THIS WEEK'S GOSPEL THEME
AT SUNDAY SCHOOL AND AT HOME
Materials:
Various small objects (ex: toy soldier, golf tee, jacks, Monopoly figure, birthday candle, Legos® -- things with distinct shapes)
Bed sheet or projector screen
Bright light or lamp
Directions:
Hang the sheet from the ceiling in the center of the room. On one side, have space for children to sit. On the other side, set up the lamp several yards from the sheet. Turn off all other lights. The object of this activity is to talk about how shadows are often misleading -- shadows can be big and scary when the actual object is small! Hold the small items to the lamp so that they cast a large shadow on the sheet and invite the children to guess what each item is. If desired, hang items from a piece of string or fishing line so that your hand does not get in the way.
